Valve announces new publishing system

Valve recently announced their current third party game publishing system, Steam Greenlight, will be replaced by a new system called, Steam Direct.
This new system is being implemented as a result of complaints from Steam users, who claim that Greenlight is overpopulated by poorly coded, low quality titles. The Direct system will require developers to pay a publishing fee, part of which will be refunded, should a game becomes popular with the new system. This required fee, in addition to a sign-up process, is intended to discourage users from publishing unpolished products.
“It’s a cool idea, so many of the games on Greenlight are so bad that Greenlight became a kind of joke, hopefully this new system makes things better,” sophomore Nicholas Degoian said.
This new system wants to find a balance between offering freedom to publishers and enforcing stricter standards to improve the user experience and will hopefully deliver on its promises.
